Virgin Voyages: The Beginner's Guide
Everything a first-time Virgin Voyages sailor needs to know — what's included, how dining works, what to expect, and who this cruise line is really for.
🚢 Virgin Voyages in 60 Seconds
Virgin Voyages is an adults-only (18+) cruise line owned by Richard Branson's Virgin Group. They operate four ships — Scarlet Lady, Valiant Lady, Resilient Lady, and the newest Brilliant Lady (2025). The core proposition: all dining included (20+ restaurants), all gratuities included, all entertainment included, and no traditional buffet. Drinks cost extra via a Bar Tab system.

- ✗ You prefer conservative, traditional environments
How Dining Works on Virgin Voyages
Dining on Virgin Voyages works completely differently from other cruise lines. All 20+ restaurants are included with no additional charges — no cover fees, no per-dish costs. However, most popular restaurants require advance reservations made via the Virgin Voyages app.
- When to book: Dining reservations open 45 days before your sailing for standard cabins, and 60 days in advance for Rockstar Quarters guests.
- How to book: Through the Virgin Voyages app (download before your voyage). You can book all speciality restaurants, time slots, and group sizes.
- Walk-ins: The Galley (casual food hall) and certain venues accept walk-ins throughout the day, but popular restaurants like Test Kitchen and The Wake book out fast.
- No menu restrictions: You can eat at the same restaurant multiple times — try Test Kitchen's Menu A on night 2 and Menu B on night 5 if you wish.
The Sailing Club: Loyalty Programme
Virgin Voyages' loyalty programme is called the Sailing Club. It is voyage-based (not points-based) and operates across three tiers:
| Tier | How to Earn | Key Benefits |
|---|---|---|
| Sailing Club Member | After your 1st completed voyage | Member-only offers, early promotions access, quarterly newsletter |
| Blue Extras | After your 2nd completed voyage (applies from 3rd voyage onwards) | Exclusive cocktail event, one complimentary laundry bag, daily specialty coffee, dedicated Sailor Services priority support |
| Deep Blue Extras | After your 4th completed voyage (applies from 5th voyage onwards) | $100 Bar Tab credit, unlimited Premium Wi-Fi, priority boarding, all Blue Extras benefits |
Rockstar Quarters: Virgin's Luxury Tier
Rockstar Quarters are Virgin Voyages' premium accommodation tier and the most talked-about cabins in the fleet. Unlike most cruise line suites that are defined primarily by extra space, Rockstar Quarters deliver a full concierge service experience:
- Richard's Rooftop: Exclusive access to a private sundeck at the very top of the ship — a tranquil pool, private bar, and plunge pool reserved only for Rockstar Quarters guests.
- Rockstar Agent: A dedicated concierge (your "Rockstar Agent") available to manage dining reservations, Shore Things excursions, and any request during your voyage.
- Custom In-Cabin Setup: Arrive to find a turntable and premium speaker system, custom playlist programming, personalized bar stocking, and mood lighting.
- Dining Priority: Dining reservations open 135 days before sailing for Rockstar Quarters guests (vs 45 days for standard cabins).
- Complimentary Shore Things Credit: Mega Rockstar Quarters guests receive a credit towards Virgin's official Shore Things excursions.
Key Things to Know Before Sailing
- Download the App Before You Board: The Virgin Voyages app is essential. Use it to book dining, buy a Bar Tab, pre-select Shore Things, and manage your entire voyage before you step on the ship.
- No Cash on Board: Everything is charged to your onboard account (credit/debit card registered in the app). No need for cash or physical card at any point during the voyage.
- No Traditional Buffet: The Galley is not a buffet — it is a curated made-to-order food hall. Expect a wait for food (3–8 minutes) but significantly better quality than a traditional lido deck buffet.
- Adults Only — Strictly Enforced: Guests must be 18 or older. No exceptions. Proof of age may be requested.
- Dress Code: None: There are no formal nights, no dress codes for any restaurant or venue. Wear what you like, when you like.
